I didn’t have a desk, so I made one!
upclying abandoned wooden furnitures

Personal work

I didn’t have a desk to use for working in my bedroom until I found a solid oak, leaflet dining table on the Harbord street sitting on the curb side and had an idea to save some money, learn woodworking, and have a desk.

Here is how I ended up making a Desk made from reclaimed and new red oak, 50”x25”x31”. (illustrated in the next page)

1) Found a solid wood leaflet dining table at parking lot 800m away from school,  stashed it in the nearest bush for a couple of days untill I was able to convince my kind-hearted friends to help my carry/roll it to the studio.

2) Took apart the whole thing, seeing many cool old school woodworking techniques such as a dove tail slider.

3) Scraped away the layers of old stain, varnish, and paint to reveal the pretty wood grain of the table top.

4) Cut the table top into planks.

5) Laminate those planks together to create a new 50”x25” rectangular table top using biscuit joints.

6) Designed and built a frame and legs from new lumber using domino joints.
